RVSA Implementation Consultation Framework

In response to some concerns from stakeholders about how the Road Vehicle Standards (RVS) legislation would be implemented, the department established the RVSA Implementation Consultation Framework.

This consultation framework aimed to facilitate the smooth implementation of the RVS legislation through a targeted consultation process. Three consultation groups were established under this framework.

Motor Vehicle Standards laws

From July 1989 until 1 July 2021, the Motor Vehicle Standards Act 1989 (MVSA) and Motor Vehicle Standards Regulations 1989 made it an offence to import, sell or present new or used imported vehicles to the Australian market for the first time unless they met the national standards, except in circumstances where an exemption was granted.

Fuel consumption label

Fuel_consumption_label The fuel consumption labelling standard (ADR81/02) requires a model specific fuel consumption label to be placed on the windscreens of all new vehicles up to 3.5 tonne gross vehicle mass.

Accreditation information for operators of audited maintenance programs

This section is not directly relevant to claimants for the fuel tax credit. It is for organisations seeking accreditation of their audited maintenance program for the purposes of the fuel tax credit.

Audited Maintenance Programs

Under Criterion 2, only audited maintenance programs accredited by the Transport Secretary will be recognised for the purposes of the fuel tax credit. The Department has prepared the requirements below which set out what elements a program needs to satisfy to obtain accreditation. It also sets out how to make an application for accreditation.
