Road transport infrastructure is critical to sustaining Australian communities, growing our strong economy and improving our international competitiveness.

With our population centres separated by vast distances, through our department the Australian Government contributes to the prosperity of our economy and the wellbeing of all Australians by supporting continued improvement to our road transport infrastructure.

We advise the government on transport reform and innovations to improve road transport efficiency, productivity and resilience, safety, sustainability and environmental performance. We also provide a diverse range of day-to-day services to the road transport sector and the community which improve the prosperity, accessibility and liveability of our communities.
