IMO/ILO Guidelines on Seafarers Welfare

The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and the International Labour Organization have developed and adopted three sets of non-mandatory guidelines to ensure the rights of seafarers are respected. These are the Guidelines on Fair Treatment of Seafarers in the Event of a Maritime Accident, the Guidelines on Shipowners" Responsibilities in respect of Contractual Claims for Personal Injury to or Death of Seafarers and the Guidelines on Provision of Financial Security in Case of Abandonment of Seafarers.

Australia had the opportunity to comment on these Guidelines as a member State of the IMO.

For more information on these Guidelines please see the IMO website.
