Minister's Visit to the Indian Ocean Territories - Postponed

As you know, the Hon Dr John McVeigh MP, Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government, planned to visit Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands from Tuesday 3rd July to Thursday 5th July. The Minister was to be accompanied by Dr Steven Kennedy PSM, Secretary of the Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities.

Unfortunately, due to unforeseen Ministerial commitments, Minister McVeigh has had to postpone his visit to the Indian Ocean Territories. The Minister is very keen to learn first-hand about the topics that impact the Indian Ocean Territories from local residents, government and business representatives, and plans to re-schedule the visit as soon as possible.

The two community events scheduled on Christmas Island and West Island will continue next week as follows:

• Christmas Island - CLA Foreshore on Tuesday, 3 July at 6.00 p.m.
• West Island - Government House on Wednesday, 4 July at 6.30 p.m.

The West Island event will also be an opportunity to welcome the new Chief Executive Officer of the Shire of Cocos (Keeling) Islands, Ms. Andrea Selvey.

I will advise the community of new arrangements to meet the Minister, once dates for the Minister's visit are confirmed. I thank everyone for your patience and understanding.
