Are you an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander leader based in northern Australia passionate about Indigenous business and industry growth in northern Australia? The Northern Australia Indigenous Reference Group (IRG) is inviting Expressions of Interest (EOI) from individuals dedicated to creating sustainable opportunities and maximising Indigenous outcomes.
About the IRG
Formed in 2017, the IRG plays a crucial role in the governance framework of the Australian Government for northern Australia. This EOI is looking for participants to join the IRG for its upcoming third term. The IRG functions as a significant advisory body for the Australian Government on pan-northern Indigenous business issues and solutions, and the prosperity and self-determination of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The IRG works closely with the Minister for Northern Australia and the Minister for Indigenous Australians to provide practical knowledge and advice aimed at improving the economic well-being of Indigenous Australians, in line with the goals of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Your role
As an IRG member, you will:
- Advise on priorities outlined in the Northern Australia Action Plan 2024–2029 Northern Australia Action Plan 2024-2029.
- Participate in IRG and stakeholder meetings (minimal travel required—2–3 trips per year).
- Represent the IRG at forums and events, contributing ideas and expertise.
Position Details
- Term: 2 years to December 2026, with the possibility for extension.
- Roles Available: Candidates may apply for Chair or Member, or both.
- Compensation: Sitting fees and travel allowances are paid in accordance with the Remuneration Tribunal Determination 2023.
