The Australian Government and state and territory governments share responsibility for the regulation of gambling services.

The Department of Social Services has lead responsibility for the Australian Government’s online gambling harm minimisation agenda. We provide advice to the Government about the regulation of interactive gambling services and harm minimisation initiatives such as BetStop – the National Self Exclusion Register and gambling advertising.

State and territory governments have responsibility for the licensing and regulation of all gambling products and services, including interactive gambling services and land-based gambling (e.g. pokies and casinos).
