The Office of Future Transport Technology leads the Commonwealth's engagement on the National Land Transport Technology Action Plan and underpinning National Policy Framework, which sets out a nationally consistent approach to policy, regulatory and investment decision-making for emerging land transport technologies.
The Action Plan is updated every four years and outlines national short- to medium-term priorities, focusing on the five key issues for Government identified in the framework:
- Safety, Security and Privacy
- Digital and Physical Infrastructure
- Data
- Standards and Interoperability
- Disruption and Change.
Progress against the Action Plan's key priorities is reported annually. Reports from previous years can be accessed below:

In late 2023, public and industry consultation was undertaken on a new draft National Road Transport Technology Strategy and draft 2024-2027 National Connected and Automated Vehicle Action plan. Once approved, the new Strategy and 2024-2027 Action Plan will replace the current Policy Framework and its Action Plan.
