About NVES Regulator engagement
The New Vehicle Efficiency Standard Regulator (NVES Regulator) engages frequently, deliberately and inclusively.
Since May 2024 when the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard Act 2024 (NVES Act) passed through Parliament, NVES teams have worked closely with regulated entitiesto make sure a smooth transition to NVES regulation. This has been an important step in implementing the NVES and establishing the NVES Regulator.
The department leads a number of activities:
- Workshops – full-day workshops held in Canberra in June 2024 and October 2024. These have been attended by regulated entities closely engaged in the implementation of NVES.
- Online forums for international stakeholders – online webinars held in June 2024 and October 2024. These have been attended by industry stakeholders.
-
Working groups – fortnightly working groups have been established. These are the:
- Information Technology (IT) implementation working group – The purpose of the IT Implementation Working Group is to facilitate the co-design and testing of IT systems with key stakeholder. This is to support the smooth implementation of systems administered by the NVES Regulator.
- Emissions Testing (ET) working group – The objective of the Emissions Testing Working Group is to assess the necessary changes to the Australian Design Rules (ADRs) to make sure new vehicles covered by the NVES are compliant.
The NVES Regulator will establish further working groups specific to the development of education materials and regulation. Further information on these will be published here in the coming months.
- Monthly webinars – provide a regular opportunity to update industry stakeholders on NVES implementation progress and for users to ask questions
- One-on-one meetings on demand – occur with key regulated entities as required.
