The current and future viability of aviation operations at Australian airports can be threatened by inappropriate development. Communities under flight paths and near airports can be affected by issues including noise, development restrictions and safety risks.

Release of ARFFS Regulatory Policy Review Public Discussion Paper

On 18 December 2015, the Department released a regulatory policy review consultation paper that considered future arrangements in relation to the provision of ARFFS at Australian airports. Public and industry comments on the paper closed on 12 February 2016.  Eleven submissions were received.

On 14 November 2013, the former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, the Hon Warren Truss MP, announced the Government had established an independent review of aviation safety regulation in Australia.
