The Australian Government facilitates the provision of Legal Aid services in the Jervis Bay Territory (JBT). This service was previously provided by NSW Legal Aid but will be continued by Legal Aid ACT effective immediately.

Community Bulletins, Updates and Media Releases

From time to time, the Minister with responsibility for territories provides updates directly to the local communities of Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands. These messages are complemented by more operational Community Bulletins, issued by the department, or the Administrator of Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands. Community Bulletins contain information for residents and stakeholders about service changes, consultation opportunities, community events and new initiatives.

Further to the Community Bulletin issued on 12 September 2018 (No. 2018/09), the Jervis Bay Territory Administration extends an invitation to all Jervis Bay Territory (JBT) residents to attend one of two community meetings to be held in the JBT on Thursday 27 September 2018.

Beverage containers make up a large volume of litter across Australia. A Container Deposit Scheme has now commenced in the ACT, similar to the schemes which already exist in New South Wales, South Australia and the Northern Territory.

The Department of Defence (Defence) is conducting an investigation for per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) on and around the Jervis Bay Range Facility in the Jervis Bay Territory (JBT).

There is no detectable PFAS contamination in the JBT’s drinking water.
