Change of Public Holiday Date - Act of Self Determination Day 2019

A new notifiable instrument has been issued that proclaims the Act of Self Determination Day public holiday to be observed on Wednesday, 10 April 2019. This replaces the public holiday previously gazetted for Monday, 8 April 2019.

In July 2018, a gazette was issued advising of the 2019 Public Holidays on Cocos (Keeling) Islands (CKI) (refer Gazette 02/2018).

In December 2018, a community bulletin was issued after receiving numerous views from CKI residents in relation to changing the date of the gazetted public holiday for the Act of Self Determination Day (refer Community Bulletin A76/2018).

As part of the celebrations to observe the 35th anniversary for the Act of Self Determination Day, I understand there are plans in place that includes an inter-island sporting contest and the change of date would sit well with current flight arrangements to get maximum participation.

Following consultation with the CKI community and the strong support received, I wish to advise the official change of date of the gazetted public holiday for the Act of Self Determination Day from Monday, 8 April 2019 to Wednesday, 10 April 2019.

The proclamation required to appoint the special public holiday, under the Public and Bank Holidays Act 1972 (WA)(CKI) has been issued - Government Gazette 01/2019.
