Should CKI's Public Holiday for the Act of Self Determination Day be Changed From April 8th to April 10th 2019?

It has been raised with me that a number of residents from the Cocos (Keeling) Islands would like to change the date of the gazetted public holiday for the Act of Self Determination Day (ASDD) from Monday, 8 April 2019 to Wednesday, 10 April 2019.

As part of the celebrations to observe the 35th anniversary for the ASDD, I understand there are plans in place that includes an inter-island sporting contest. The change of date would sit well with current flight arrangements to get maximum participation.

I am supportive of the proposal to change the date to Wednesday 10th April 2019, however I would like to provide the opportunity for all CKI residents to have their input into the process.
