Background
While this is a new way of sharing our research, the department has been providing critical analysis since the establishment of the then Bureau of Transport Economics in 1970.
In 2020, we expanded into the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications, which brought together two established research units - the Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Research Economics (BITRE) and the Bureau of Communications, Arts and Regions Research (BCARR). We each have our own focus areas, but share a common goal of supporting evidence-based policy and program development and providing informed advice, backed up by sound research.
