Ecodrive as a road safety tool for Australian conditions

Summary

Ecodriving involves driving more smoothly by anticipating changes in the traffic, operating the vehicle within an optimum rev range, skipping and changing up gears as soon as possible, and avoiding sudden or substantial episodes of braking or acceleration. A substantial body of literature promises mild to substantial benefits from ecodriving in terms of fuel saved, emissions reduced, and possibly crashes averted.

Review of decisions by the Registrar of Liner Shipping

Part X of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (the Act) provides that applications may be made to the Administrative Review Tribunal (ART) for review of a reviewable decision. A reviewable decision means a decision by the Registrar of Liner Shipping under Part X of the Act, other than a decision to provisionally or finally register a conference agreement or a decision as to the form of a register (section 10.84 of the Act).

The effects of Electronic Stability Control interventions on rural road crashes in Australia: Simulation of real world crashes

Summary

About 60 per cent of all fatal road crashes in Australia occur on rural roads. While advances have been made in reducing the number of fatal crashes on metropolitan roads, the number of fatal crashes on rural roads remains relatively steady. Electronic Stability Control (ESC) is an active safety system which has shown potential in preventing crashes on high speed rural roads. The ESC system can detect when a vehicle is about to skid and apply braking interventions to individual wheels to prevent the skid from occurring.
