CR 160: Prevention of Head Injuries to Car Occupants: An Investigation of Interior Padding Options (1997)

Summary

Head injuries to car occupants in crashes on Australian roads are a major cause of death and permanent brain damage. Preventing impacts to the head and reducing the severity of the head impacts that do occur has the potential to save many lives and to reduce lifelong suffering by brain damaged individuals and those who have to care for them. This report evaluates the benefits that are likely to accrue from the use of padding materials to reduce the severity of the impact to the head.

Summary

This monograph compares Australia's road safety performance to its OECD counterparts. The comparisons are drawn taking into account the level of motorisation and population of the countries reported. The results highlight the substantial gains made in road safety both in Australia and many other countries from 1970 to 1994. CR 171: Community Attitudes to Road Safety: Community Attitudes Survey Wave 10 (1997)

Summary

This document reports the findings from a national survey of 1,298 people representative of the general public aged 15 years and over, conducted in June 1997. The survey is Wave 10 in a series of similar national studies conducted since October 1986 for the ATSB Road Safety, designed to monitor key community attitudes toward road safety issues. The previous survey in the series, Wave 9, was conducted 12 months earlier.
