Consultation on the Sydney Airport Demand Management Discussion Paper

Your submission, including any personal information supplied, is being collected by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications (the department) in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (the Privacy Act), for the purpose of consultation on the Sydney Airport Demand Management Review.

Introduction

The four largest leased federal airports (Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth Airports) are subject to regulation and oversight in relation to prices of aeronautical services and facilities, car parking, ground transport and quality of service. Annual monitoring is conducted by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) in accordance with the Airports Act 1996 and Competition and Consumer Act 2010.

Australia's airports are a major component of the national transport infrastructure and make a significant contribution to Australia's overall economic prosperity. Continued investment in aeronautical infrastructure is a key objective of the Australian Government. At the same time, airports have significant market power and this is an important factor in determining the most appropriate economic regulatory regime.
