Who we are and what we do

Terms and conditions of employment for non-SES employees are provided by the department's Enterprise Agreement.

Each year, Australian Public Service (APS) staff are invited to complete the Census, conducted by the Australian Public Service Commission (APSC). It is an annual engagement survey that asks staff their views on areas such as job satisfaction, wellbeing, innovation, leadership, and general impressions of the APS. In 2021, the Census was open from 10 May 2021 to 11 June 2021.

Making the most of our results

Our Australian Public Service (APS) Employee Census results provide us with an opportunity to identify areas where we are performing well, and where we need to focus our attention for improvement. A response rate of 87% provides a high level of validity to the results - we are excited to see an overall improvement in our departmental results in comparison to 2018.

Federal Court Decision—Variations to Licences

The Federal Court of Australia recently handed down a decision in the case of CSL Australia Pty Ltd v Minister for Infrastructure and Transport [2014] FCA 1160 (the Decision). In this case the Federal Court considered, among other things, what types of variation to temporary licences are permissible under Subdivision C (Authorised Matters) and Subdivision D (New Matters) of Part 4 of the Coastal Trading (Revitalising Australian Shipping) Act 2012 (the Act).

The role of the Audit and Risk Committee is to provide advice to the accountable authority on the appropriateness of financial and performance reporting, system of risk oversight and management, and system of internal control.
