Remote Air Services Subsidy Scheme

Overview

The Remote Air Services Subsidy (RASS) Scheme is part of the Australian Government's Regional Aviation Access Program (RAAP).

The RASS Scheme subsidises a regular weekly air transport service for the carriage of passengers and goods such as educational materials, medicines, fresh foods and other urgent supplies to communities in remote and isolated areas of Australia. Due to the distances involved and with road access to many communities often cut for several months during the wet season, a regular air service offers the only reliable means of transport.

Airport quality of service

Quality of service monitoring is undertaken by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) through its annual Airport Monitoring Reports. The ACCC monitors prices, costs and profits, and quality of aeronautical services and car parking at Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney (Kingsford Smith) airports.

Introduction

The four largest leased federal airports (Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth Airports) are subject to regulation and oversight in relation to prices of aeronautical services and facilities, car parking, ground transport and quality of service. Annual monitoring is conducted by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) in accordance with the Airports Act 1996 and Competition and Consumer Act 2010.
