The Australian Government is committed to supporting regular and reliable air services to Norfolk Island, and are seeking input from the local tourism industry on future air passenger services to the island.

With the current contract with Air New Zealand expiring in July next year, we want to ensure we are delivering services to best meet the needs of Norfolk residents, businesses and tourists.

Discussions between the Australian, Queensland, and New South Wales (NSW) Governments on arrangements for next year are progressing well.

Next week I will meet with staff at the school and at NIHRACS to provide an update on the transition work that is under way.

When meeting with the staff at NICS, I will be addressing questions and issues about the future curriculum and employment as well as answering some of the questions that have been raised to date. I will also take note of any additional concerns that the staff have.

The current COVID-19 situation across the eastern states of mainland Australia and consequential travel restrictions is having a significant impact on domestic air travel, including to services to Norfolk Island.



In response to the significantly reduced passenger demand, the number of air passenger services to Norfolk Island over the coming weeks will be reduced.
