On 1 June 2017, the House of Representatives established the Select Committee on Regional Development and Decentralisation to inquire and report on best practice approaches to regional development, the decentralisation of Commonwealth entities, and supporting corporate decentralisation.
The Committee released its final report—Regions at the Ready: Investing in Australia's Future—on 28 June 2018. The report made 13 recommendations to support and promote the economic development of regional communities.
The Committee received a total of 196 written submissions. It also held public hearings in every Australian state and territory.
