Consultation on draft direction to use 3.5 GHz band spectrum for the NBN spectrum gap

The Minister has directed the ACMA to have in place arrangements, by 30 April 2015, to issue apparatus licences in the 3.5 GHz frequency band (3400 to 3600 MHz) for the NBN fixed wireless network in the metro fringe of the mainland capital cities.

Australia’s spectrum has been managed using a framework that was developed in 1992, with a review of Radiocommunications Acts in 2002. The framework needs to be modernised to reflect changes in technology.
