The Issue

We are working with the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) to review spectrum policy arrangements.

The Minister has invited comments on reform principles and 11 potential reform proposals in the Spectrum Review – Potential Reform Directions paper. The aim is to encourage industry engagement and feedback. The proposals do not represent our final views or the views of the Australian Government.

Spectrum Review – Potential Reform Directions Paper

Outcome

The Government has agreed to implement the recommendations of the Spectrum Review.

The reforms will improve Australia’s spectrum management framework by making it simpler, more efficient and flexible. This will support the future demands of spectrum users and new and innovative technologies and services, while providing certainty of spectrum access rights for users.

The Government has released an implementation timeline and transitional arrangements for stakeholders.
