The Stepping Into Program is a nationwide initiative facilitated by the Australian Disability Network, offering invaluable paid work experience to university students with disabilities who may encounter substantial obstacles in securing employment. This program is a collaborative platform connecting employers with skilled and talented students, actively fostering diversity and inclusion in the workforce.

About the Stepping Into Program
The Stepping Into Program offers placements for a minimum of 152 hours (4–5 weeks) as an APS Level 2 employee, available for both full-time and part-time equivalents. Expressions of interest will be accepted in February 2024 for the Winter program starting in July 2024.
The Australian Disability Network carefully assesses candidates based on their area of study, work history, and career goals. Candidates are shortlisted, matched to available positions, and provided with any necessary adjustments. Your disability information is handled with utmost confidentiality, and the Australian Disability Network removes any disability-specific details before sharing the application with the Entry Level Programs team.
Eligibility criteria
To be eligible for the Stepping Into Program, you must:
- be a university student in your final or penultimate year
- have a disability and be registered with disability services at your university, or provide a note from an allied health practitioner, social worker, psychologist, or medical professional
- commit to the entire program
- meet the department's security requirements
- be an Australian citizen.
Application process
To apply, you will need to complete an application, including your resume, academic transcript, and relevant disability information. Additionally, an interview with the Australian Disability Network will be conducted to assess your suitability based on your area of study, work history, and career goals. Applications will need to be submitted directly to the Australian Disability Network, who will share their list of suitable candidates with our department.
