I am pleased to advise Queensland has officially commenced delivery of state services on Norfolk Island, with Queensland Health now providing support to the Norfolk Island Health and Residential Aged Care Service (NIHRACS).
Thank you for your patience over the past few months, while we worked with Queensland to finalise service delivery arrangements for NIHRACS and the Norfolk Island Central School (NICS).
The Australian Government extends thanks to the New South Wales (NSW) Government for its contribution to the Norfolk Island community, and for agreeing to the use of the NSW curriculum in 2022 and 2023 to enable senior students on island to complete their NSW Higher School Certificate.
Preparations are well under way for the first day of school, with students due to return to NICS classrooms on 3 February 2022.
Thanks to Queensland for working closely with the school community to ensure a smooth transition and I wish all new and returning students and teachers to NICS the very best for the new school year.
The necessary legislation is now also in place to support the delivery of Queensland services.
