Due to the continued and escalating COVID-19 situation in New South Wales, and to keep the Norfolk Island community safe, flights between Sydney and Norfolk Island will be suspended until further notice.
As you will be aware, there are currently very few passengers on the flights and this approach will minimise health risks of COVID-19 spreading to the local community. The Australia Government is reviewing the COVID-19 situation in Sydney regularly and will restore Sydney to Norfolk Island services when it is appropriate to do so.
Connectivity between mainland Australia and Norfolk Island will be maintained with three return Qantas flights from Brisbane per week on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Travellers from areas that are not subject to travel restrictions can continue to travel to Norfolk Island via Brisbane. Before travelling, please consult Norfolk Island COVID‑19 travel information at www.norfolkisland.gov.nf/covid-19-travel-information-and-entry-pass.
Qantas will ensure that passengers scheduled to fly to Norfolk Island through Sydney in the near future are re-accommodated through Brisbane, subject to travel restriction requirements. Qantas is maintaining its Norfolk Island cancellation policy, giving customers on cancelled services a number of options:
- Rebook on another Qantas flight
- Retain the value of the ticket in credit with Qantas
- If the above options are not suitable, customers are entitled to a refund.
If you have any questions about booking changes, please contact Qantas on +61 2 8222 2422, online via qantas.com or through your travel agent.
The pandemic continues to present unprecedented global challenges to the aviation sector. I would like to thank Qantas for helping to ensure the continuity of flights to Norfolk Island through Brisbane, for this period of uncertainty.
I would like to thank everyone for their continuing patience and understanding as we work together to ensure the health and safety of residents and visitors to Norfolk Island.

Administrator of Norfolk Island
