I want to remind the community about two opportunities next week to have your say on fire control and management on Norfolk Island.
Eco Logical Australia is on island from 2 March to commence work on the Norfolk Island Fire Management Plan (NIFMP). The NIFMP will provide the overarching framework for managing all fire risks on Norfolk Island.
If you would like to contribute to development of the NIFMP, there will be a community drop-in session with Eco Logical on Friday, 5 March, 11:30am–1:30pm at NI Connect, next door to the Bounty Centre.
You can also provide your views on the regulation of green waste-burning during the face-to-face community consultation sessions I am hosting on 2 March 2021.
The community consultation sessions will be held on Tuesday, 2 March at 10:30am and 5:15pm, in the Office of the Administrator meeting room at New Military Barracks, Quality Row, Kingston. To register your intention to attend, please contact norfolkislandteam@infrastructure.gov.au or 23315.
The consultation paper and public submission setting out proposed reforms to the legislation dealing with fire control in Norfolk Island can be found on the department's website at /territories/norfolk_island/legislation-updates.aspx.
