Community priorities in focus on Norfolk Island as consultations progress

Following a delay due to Coronavirus, community consultations on the immediate to long-term shared vision for Norfolk Island will begin on Monday (8 June), with the release of an Island-wide survey.

The scope of the planned community consultation on the Norfolk Island 2030: Sustaining Our Future plan has expanded to include the Island's immediate to short-term goals in response to the broader economic impacts of COVID-19.

As announced by the Mayor of Norfolk Island, Robin Adams last week, we are working together with the community to understand how the pandemic has affected Norfolk Island, and what steps can be taken toward recovery and renewal, as well as our long-term strategic goals.

Two community workshops have already taken place, with the final one scheduled for Wednesday, 10 June.

The community survey will be available online from 8 to 26 June 2020, through Survey Monkey (www.surveymonkey.com/r/Norfolk2030).

Council staff will also be contacting households to meet you face-to-face to assist completing the survey online using an iPad, or if you prefer, a hard copy of the survey will be available at my office.

The workshops and survey will be followed by on-Island community and stakeholder consultation in coming months. Vanessa Bennett, from C Change Sustainable Solutions, and Leon Mills, from Stump Jump Solutions, will guide these on-island consultations and further details on this will be provided following the conclusion of the workshops and survey and dependent on travel restrictions to the island.

If you do not receive a request to complete the survey and would like to do so, or if you have further questions, please contact my office at office.administrator@regional.gov.au or phone 22152.

We encourage all Norfolk Island residents to take part. Your vision will be used by the Australian Government, in partnership with the Norfolk Island Regional Council, business sector, and community, to guide future goals and investment.
