I am pleased to announce the appointment of two new members to the Kingston and Arthur's Vale Historic Area (KAVHA) Advisory Committee.
Norfolk Island resident Ms Susan Prior will join the committee as a community member, alongside continuing members Mr Duncan Evans and Mr David ‘Dids’ Evans. Ms Prior is a professional freelance writer and editor, former employee of Norfolk Island Regional Council, and initiator of the informal Norfolk Island Digital Commuters group. She has a passion for our natural world and history, and a desire to improve visitor experiences and the way information about KAVHA is communicated.
The newly appointed expert member to the committee is Dr Jane Harrington. A member of the Australian Heritage Council, and Director of Conservation and Infrastructure at the Port Arthur Historic Site, Dr. Harrington has more than 25 years" experience in cultural heritage management. She visited Norfolk Island in 2018 to share her extensive knowledge and experience with the committee, and generously hosted members of the KAVHA works crew and staff for skills development at Port Arthur. Dr. Harrington joins Ms. Kristal Buckley AM, and Mr Kevin Sumption PSM, in providing expert advice to conserve and progress the KAVHA site.
Together, the Advisory Committee members bring a wide range of experience and interests in areas relevant to management of the KAVHA site, including cultural heritage, conservation, archaeology, collection management, land use management, communications, tourism and business development.
I look forward to working with the expanded Advisory Committee over the coming years.
If you would like to know more about the committee, please contact Mr Martin Purslow, Commonwealth Heritage Manager on +6723 23115 or martin.purslow@infrastructure.gov.au.
