The Prime Minister, the Hon Scott Morrison MP announced his new Ministry appointing the Hon Nola Marino MP as the new Assistant Minister for Regional Development and Territories.
Nola has always been a passionate advocate for regional and remote Australia—not just for those she represents, but also in her support for policies and agendas that provide services to all Australians. She is a down to earth dairy farmer whom the community will come to know as being very personable and grounded. She is active within her local community and is a former ABC Regional Rural Woman of the Year.
Nola has been the Federal Member for Forrest since November 2007. On
27 September 2015, Nola became the first female to be appointed to the position of Chief Government Whip. During my time in Parliament, Nola and I represented similar electorates with strong agriculture and agribusiness sectors. Her knowledge and understanding of smaller regional communities will be a great asset in her new role. I have contacted Nola by phone to congratulate her and look forward to working with her again.
Nola replaces the Hon Sussan Ley MP, who has been promoted into Cabinet as the Minister for the Environment. During her time as the Assistant Minister for Regional Development and Territories Sussan was committed to ensuring the delivery of services to Norfolk Island that are appropriate to the unique and diverse circumstances of the Island. She worked hard to get timely results on a number of issues such as biosecurity and freight.
