Norfolk Island Regional Council election in 2020

Changes to the Local Government Act 1993 (NSW) (NI) are being made to facilitate the Norfolk Island Regional Council (Council) election in 2020.

These changes will deal with issues such as:

• enabling the Council to choose how the election in 2020 and future elections should be run
• clarifying responsibilities for the various election activities
• making sure personal information is collected, used and shared by authorised people and organisations for the purpose of running the election
• replacing references to NSW laws that do not operate in Norfolk Island with references to relevant Norfolk Island laws.

If you would like more information, a fact sheet is available on the Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities’ Legislation Updates webpage /territories/norfolk_island/legislation-updates.aspx.

If you have any questions or comments about the proposed changes, please contact my Office on telephone 22152 or e-mail Office.Administrator@infrastructure.gov.au
