Media Release
22 December 2016
Lorraine and I wish everyone in the Norfolk Island community a safe and happy Christmas and festive season and a peaceful New Year. We hope you are able to take ‘time-out’ with your family and friends and enjoy everything beautiful Norfolk Island has to offer.
I know the team at Government House and the Office of the Administrator join me in extending these warm wishes.
2016 has been a year of significant change for Norfolk Island with the new governance arrangements taking effect from 1 July. The Australian Government and my office have been working hard to ensure the new essential services and support arrangements are being delivered effectively and all members of the Norfolk Island community are receiving the services they need. 2017 will see further evidence of our continued work in implementing the reforms and we welcome your constructive feedback as we progress this work.
I would like to extend my thanks to staff at the Norfolk Island Health and Residential Aged Care Service, the Norfolk Island Central School, the Australian Government service providers and the Norfolk Island Regional Council, and also the officers of the Norfolk Island Police Force for their efforts in 2016 in supporting the community.
I would also like to recognise all of the volunteers who contribute through various statutory roles and the many community organisations for the tireless work they put into assisting those in need and in supporting valuable community initiatives.
My office will be close for the festive season at midday Friday 23 December 2016 and will reopen on Tuesday 3 January 2017.
The Hon Gary Hardgrave
