Application of the NSW Public Health Act

Media Release

15 December 2016

Certain provisions of the Public Health Act 2010 (NSW) relating to public health matters and associated provisions of the Public Health Regulation 2012 (NSW) will apply on Norfolk Island from 20 January 2017.

The Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), made the Ordinances on 8 December 2016.

These provisions will give the Norfolk Island Health and Residential Aged Care Service a legislative basis to seek assistance from NSW officials in responding to notifiable diseases on Norfolk Island, and managing public health risks during a state of emergency, for example during a natural disaster.

Remaining parts of public health legislation which directly impact the community will only be applied after community engagement takes place.
