Saturday, 28 May 2016 was election day for the Norfolk Island Regional Council.
The Australian Electoral Company is in the process of counting votes with postal votes not closing until 6pm today, Monday, 30 May 2016.

The Norfolk Island Regional Council comes into effect from 1 July 2016, and from that date the Councillors will have decision making authority.
Until 1 July 2016, the Administration of Norfolk Island remains in place and decisions will continue to be taken which ensure the ongoing delivery of services to the community, finalise current financial year matters, and put in place necessary planning for next financial year.
The Councillors-elect will be provided with training during the period 22 to 30 June 2016, similar to what is provided to their counterparts in New South Wales. This will address Council roles and responsibilities during their term of office.
