Media Release
8 April 2016
Minister for Major Projects, Territories and Local Government Paul Fletcher has given his powers to me as the Administrator of Norfolk Island to act as Electoral Commissioner for the Norfolk Island Regional Council election.
This decision was made under the Norfolk Island Regional Council Preparatory Election Ordinance 2016.
Accordingly a Returning Officer from the Australian Election Company has now been formally appointed to conduct the poll. The Australian Election Company is an independent election service provider with expertise in the conduct of local government elections.
Preparations are now well underway for the Norfolk Island Regional Council election, and some may have noticed the establishment of an enrolment centre on Taylors Road (opposite the Tourism Information Centre).
As a new electoral roll is being established, this means each eligible resident will need to enrol to be able to vote in the Norfolk Island Regional Council Election on 28 May 2016.
New enrolment forms are available from the Enrolment Centre and online at www.austelect.com
The electoral roll closes at 6:00 pm on 18 April 2016. It is important residents complete, sign and submit the form as soon as possible to ensure their voice is heard.
The enrolment form also gives residents the option of enrolling to vote in the federal election due later this year.
Enrolment on the federal roll will be compulsory for eligible persons from 1 July 2016.
The Hon Gary Hardgrave
