International Women's Day 2016

Media Release

04 March 2016

International Women's Day is held annually on 8 March to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. On this day we reflect on the present success in addressing past failures as well as the need for further improvement.

I acknowledge the efforts on the Women's Advocacy Group Norfolk Island (WAGNI) which will host on this Tuesday 8 March, a breakfast to celebrate International Women's Day at Norfolk Island Golf Club.

The guest speaker is Hetty Johnston AM the founder of Bravehearts an organisation which provides strong advocacy to educate, empower and protect Australian kids from sexual assault. Hetty was also the Queensland Australian of the Year in 2015.

On this International Women's Day we should recommit ourselves to ensure women's issues and gender equality is taken into consideration in policy and programme development and implementation.
