Nominations are sought from young people aged 16 to 23 for the Administrator's Young Endeavour Community Scholarship.
This Scholarship will assist one young person ordinarily resident on Norfolk Island to participate in a sail training voyage aboard the Young Endeavour.
The Young Endeavour experience is not a leisurely cruise. It is challenging adventure training at sea, which seeks to develop confidence, teamwork and leadership skills.
The Young Endeavour is a 44m-long tall ship purpose-built for sail training, with modern technology and world–standard safety navigation equipment. You live ‘between decks’ in a close community with other youth crew from diverse places and backgrounds across Australia. Further information is available at: www.youngendeavour.gov.au
The Administrator's Scholarship will cover the cost of a berth on the Young Endeavour, travel insurance, air travel costs to and from Sydney, and accommodation, if required.
It is envisaged the successful candidate will take part in the Young Endeavour's voyage departing Sydney on 20 March 2016 and returning to Sydney on 30 March 2016.
To be eligible for this Scholarship you must:
- be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
- ordinarily live on Norfolk Island
- be 16–23 years old on the day of departure of the voyage
- be able to swim 50 metres
- weigh less than 120kg and be in good health
- not have previously sailed in Young Endeavour.
If you are aged under 18, your parent or guardian must give permission for you to participate in the voyage. And for safety reasons, there are certain medical conditions which may preclude participation in the voyage. The Scholarship and offer to participate is provisional until confirmed, including completion of the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme health questionnaire.
Application forms can be obtained from the Office of the Administrator (Tel: 22 152).
Completed application forms must be marked “For the attention of the Office Manager” and received by the Office of the Administrator before close of business at 4.30pm on Monday 18 January 2016. Applications can be lodged in person at the Office, or via email at office.administrator@infrastructure.gov.au
