The Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities has published the Report on the Indian Ocean Territories Health Service. Completed by PricewaterhouseCoopers, the Report will inform the development of a Five-Year Strategic Plan for the Health Service.
The Report is comprehensive and outlines recommendations that have been informed by community feedback and are underpinned by extensive data analysis.
It has highlighted the strength and accessibility of comprehensive primary, acute and diagnostic care services on both Christmas Island (CI) and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands (CKI), and recommends maintaining the 24x7 operation of the CI Hospital.
The Report recognises that the health needs of the communities are changing due to a number of factors, including an ageing population, and increasing rates of obesity and chronic disease. It is important that the IOT Health Service continues to adapt its services to meet the needs of the community.
The Department is seeking your comment on recommendations in the report, which will support the development of the Five-Year Strategic Plan. The Report is available on the Department’s website at www.regional.gov.au/territories/publications/index.aspx. Hard copies are available, upon request, from the IOT Administration Offices.
Thank you to all who contributed to community consultations conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers. Details and times of further community consultation will be released in coming weeks.
