The Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities (DIRDC) is calling for Expressions of Interest to upgrade Christmas Island’s (CI) wharf crane and mooring systems at Flying Fish Cove (FFC), Smith Point and Norris Point, location of the Nui Nui facility.

The works will include construction of the proposed replacement of the wharf crane at FFC and mooring systems at FFC and Smith Point, and removal of the crane and remaining mooring components at Nui Nui.

The proposed works will create jobs and economic opportunities for CI and provide a significant positive impact to the local community by addressing safety and operational risks, and ensuring the adequacy of critical infrastructure. The proposed works will also help to promote the physical well-being, social welfare and economic stability of the CI community.

The planned upgrades are intended to increase the reliability of shipping services, including the delivery of goods to local businesses.

The procurement for the project has now been published on AusTender for a Request for Expressions of Interest (REOI) closing on the 16th April 2019. Electronic lodgement only should be made by accessing the AusTender system at https://www.tenders.gov.au.
