Looking for Indian Ocean Territories Regional Development Organisation (RDO) members

Number: A69/2019

Relevant: Christmas Island, Cocos (Keeling) Islands

Date: 30 September 2019

Earlier in the year the RDO amended its constitution in a number of areas taking into consideration feedback from the community specifically around membership of the RDO, its selection process, diversity and the number of RDO members.  As a result of these changes there is no longer an automatic appointment by the Shires on the RDO.

The new process requires individuals to nominate their interest in joining the RDO outlining their experience and what their contribution to the RDO will be. Shire employees and councilors can submit an application to join the RDO as a community member.

Mr. Gordon Thomson (Christmas Island) and Ms. Andrea Selvey (Cocos (Keeling) Islands) were both appointed by their respective councils to the RDO under the old constitution as shire representatives. Their terms are expiring soon and I would like to thank them both for their contribution to the RDO.

As part of the arrangements under the new constitution I am formally calling for expression of interests to fill multiple community membership vacancies on the RDO. I am seeking to further diversify the membership of the RDO so it provides broad-based representation of the Christmas and Cocos communities. These voluntary positions of community representative members are for a two-year term.

Local IOT residents interested in these positions should send an updated resume or CV along with a letter (max of 3 pages) to myself detailing how their experience and skills will assist the RDO in supporting the economic development of the Indian Ocean Territories.

Expressions of interest should be emailed to me at natasha.griggs@infrastructure.gov.au by Tuesday 8th October 2019.

Mrs Natasha Griggs
Administrator of Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands
