Security Upgrades at Christmas and Cocos Airports

Security features at both the Christmas Island and Cocos (Keeling) Islands Airports will be upgraded over the next 18 months.

In 2018, the Department of Home Affairs introduced new regulations for security screening at airports in Australia. These regulations require an upgrade to all screening points.

Our airport operator, Toll Remote Logistics, will introduce walk-through body scanners to assist in detecting non-metallic items of interest on a passenger.

This equipment is safe to use by those with pacemakers and artificial joints, and will reduce the need to frisk search persons with these items.

Each screening point will also be widened by approximately two metres to accommodate the new equipment, and allow improved passenger flow and staff access.

The lanes will be reconfigured to improve the flow of passengers through the screening point and reduce congestion as much as possible.

Toll will also install new security cameras covering public landside and airside areas, as well as screening and check-in points.

These changes to the security measures at our airports will not adversely affect airport users and will improve the passenger experience for everyone.
