Last night's presentation ball marked the end of what has been a spectacular week of activities celebrating the 35th Anniversary of the Act of Self Determination on Cocos (Keeling) Islands.
It was fantastic to have around 40 Christmas Islanders visiting during the week and participating in what was another very successful inter-island sports competition. Christmas Island won the Soccer trophy, while Cocos dominated in the rugby, touch, sepak takraw, and the volleyball competitions.
Congratulations to the Cocos community on such a successful program of events. Special thanks to the Shire of Cocos (Keeling) Island team and to the many Home Island Sports Recreation Association (HISRA) volunteers who worked tirelessly on this event.
As I foreshadowed in a previous bulletin, while on Cocos I chaired the Emergency Management Executive, the Emergency Management Committee, the RDO general meeting and hosed a number of stakeholder meetings and business leader functions.
I am delighted to once again be involved in the sponsorship of the very popular Christmas Island Neighbourhood Centre's Easter Egg hunt. I wish all the children the very best of luck in finding their eggs.
I will be off island over the Easter and ANZAC Day break. Territory Controller Sgt John Giles has kindly offered to represent me at the Christmas Island Dawn Service. I can be contacted over this period directly or through my Executive Officer David Eizenberg.
