The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting the possibility of heavy rains on Christmas Island in the coming days.

Overnight there were reports of small rocks on Murray Road as well as some fallen trees on a few roads. I encourage all motorists to drive carefully in the wet conditions and to obey all road signs.

Should you become aware of any rocks or trees dislodged by the rain, please contact the Shire of Christmas Island Works & Services Manager Mr Ian Dodds on 043 921 5306 in the first instance in order that these obstructions can be removed as quickly as possible.

Detective Sergeant John Giles, the Territory Controller, and my office are monitoring the weather patterns and will inform the community should any additional steps be needed as a result of the rain.

Updates on the weather conditions will be posted on my official Facebook page Natasha Griggs, Administrator Christmas and Cocos Keeling Islands or @NGriggsIOT

Thank you for your cooperation.
