Date: 26 July 2018

Relevant: Christmas Island

Topic: Repairs to the Flying Fish Cove Shelters and Mosque Minaret

The Indian Ocean Territories Administration would like to advise the Christmas Island community that repair works have begun on both the Flying Fish Cove shelters and the Mosque Minaret. Both projects are managed by JLL.

The Flying Fish Cove shelter works involve repairs to make safe the two public shelters and the shower base. These works require the area to be fenced off during construction and project completion is due mid-August.

The works on the Mosque involve structural repairs to the Minaret and the repair and replacement of the existing dome which was removed, due to safety concerns, in 2016/17. Completion of this project is estimated to be early September.

We apologise for any inconvenience during this time. The works are considered essential to ensure the ongoing integrity of these structures and their safe use by the community.
