Topic: New Government Gazette Process
On 24 May 2017, the then Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development advised in Community Bulletin D24/2017 that it was proposing to simplify and update gazette arrangements for Christmas Island (CI) and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands (CKI). Gazette notices contain information about legislation, including proclamations, appointments and other notices required by law.
The updated gazette publication process for CI and the CKI came into effect on 31 August 2017 for CI and 6 September 2017 for the CKI. Gazette notices are now published as Notifiable Instruments in one central location on the Federal Register of Legislation, alongside all other Australian Government legislation and instruments.
Gazette notices were previously published in the Indian Ocean Territories Gazette. These older notices will continue to be available in this publication. Where a gazette is published by or on behalf of the Western Australian (WA) Government, this will continue to be published in the WA Government Gazette.
This gazette change will have no noticeable effect to the community. Gazettes may include information of interest to the community, such as changes to utility pricing or public holidays. This information has always been made public through a Community Bulletin and will continue, with Community Bulletins still published on the Department's website and via its email distribution list.
Should you have any questions or comments about this change, please refer to the Community Feedback page.
