On 7 May 2018, erosion of sand around the base of the old jetty at West Island caused part of the jetty structure at the entrance to the walkway to collapse. As a result, the Port Manager has immediately closed the jetty to the public. This decision has been taken in the interest of public safety.
The Port Manager is in the process of barricading the entrance to the jetty while work can be undertaken to make the structure safe. These works may take some time to complete, so the public is asked to not attempt to access the jetty until further notice for your own safety.
