I was delighted to be informed this week that the Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities has engaged a consulting firm to research and develop a Five Year Strategic Plan for the Indian Ocean Territories Health Service (IOTHS). The successful consulting firm is PricewaterhouseCoopers, chosen through a competitive tender process.
The Department funds all healthcare services in the Indian Ocean Territories. It is funding the Strategic Plan and supporting research to ensure the continued provision of high quality healthcare services to Indian Ocean Territories" residents.
As Administrator and Chair of the Christmas Island and Cocos (Keeling) Islands Health Advisory Groups, I have a strong interest in ensuring health services meet our communities" needs. I look forward to working with the Department and PricewaterhouseCoopers to develop a comprehensive Strategic Plan that reflects the unique service delivery arrangements in the Indian Ocean Territories.
PricewaterhouseCoopers" work will include a study of current healthcare arrangements in similar remote communities on the mainland and will consider how community needs may change in the future.
Stakeholder consultation will include IOTHS staff and members of the Health Advisory Groups. Arrangements for engagement with stakeholders are still being finalised. If you are interested in contributing to the discussion about the future of our health services, please contact my Office on (08) 9164 7901 or by email to david.eizenberg@infrastructure.gov.au.
