New electricity fees for IOT

Number: 2022/11

Date: 2 September 2022

Relevant: Christmas Island and Cocos (Keeling) Islands residents

Topic: Electricity fees

Electricity fees for the Indian Ocean Territories (IOT) have been updated to align to those in Western Australia (WA), following an annual review.

The fixed fees (supply charges) and consumption fees (usage charges) have increased by 2.5%, as has the dependent child rebate. The service fees and the Government tariff have increases in the range 1.64% to 1.75%.

These latest updates to the electricity fees see IOT communities paying the same as, or similar to, electricity users in WA, in line with the Australian Government's commitment that communities in the external territories have comparable services and essential infrastructure to mainland Australia.

The Australian Government continues to subsidise the provision of electricity in the IOT.

Extracts of the amended fees are attached for your information.

Copies of the Amendment Determinations and associated Explanatory Statements for each Territory can be found at the Federal Register of Legislation’s website at https://www.legislation.gov.au/ by searching for the respective Determination using the F code:
