New Emergency Management social media pages for the IOT

Number: A16/2022

Date: 4 October

Our social media channel for communicating Emergency Management matters is changing.

We have launched new Emergency Management social media pages for Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, with a dedicated page for each Territory, to ensure content is directly relevant to each location.

Please follow (as appropriate to you):

Emergency Management Christmas Island: Emergency Management Christmas Island | Facebook

Emergency Management Cocos (Keeling) Islands: Emergency Management Cocos Keeling Islands | Facebook

The information posted on these pages will be directly related to emergency management matters, including awareness and preparedness information, alerts for adverse weather conditions, sharing relevant local knowledge and managing an active emergency.

Content will primarily be contributed by the Administrator, the Emergency Management Officer or the Territory Controller (Australian Federal Police officer-in-charge), in line with Australian Government emergency management protocols.

Other agencies will contribute content as needed and aligned with these protocols.

We ask all residents to now refer to these pages for emergency management-related matters. Posts should be shared from these pages in their entirety (please do not copy and paste only parts of the information, to minimise risks of content being misreported).

Please note this is just one channel to be used for emergency management information. Other channels may include, but are not limited to, community bulletins, notices on physical chalk or notice boards, emergency radio broadcasts, warning sirens and directions in person. In the event of an active adverse weather event like a cyclone, there may be a combination of channels used appropriate for the circumstances.
