The Australian Government strictly regulates radio frequency electromagnetic energy (RF EME) from telecommunications, including 5G, to protect the health and safety of Australians. There are two agencies involved in this:
The Australian Communication and Media Authority (ACMA) checks that RF EME from telecommunications networks is below the exposure limits set out in the ARPANSA Standard.
ACMA undertakes a range of activities as part of its work including applying licence conditions, and conducting site audits and measurement studies. Reports on the outcomes of recent measurement studies are available here.
ACMA enforces the standards that apply to telecommunications equipment and infrastructure. ACMA also ensures telecommunications providers keep accurate records of their sites once they’re in operation.
