The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has released the Internet Activity, Australia, June 2015 (cat no 8153.0).
This release presents key indicators on the use of the internet by business, government, and households, as collected from the Internet Activity Survey conducted in respect of the three months ended 30 June 2015.
Fast facts include (year-on-year represents June 2015 compared to June 2014):
- There were approximately 12.8 million internet subscribers in Australia at the end of June 2015, up two per cent year-on-year.
- Mobile and fixed wireless represented almost half (48 per cent) of total subscribers.
- Demand for faster download speeds continues to increase. The number of subscribers with an access connection of 8Mbps or greater increased 23 per cent, year-on-year while the number of connections less than 8Mbps fell 38 per cent year-on-year.
- The total volume of data downloaded increased 39 per cent year-on-year to 1.4 million TB. Fixed line increased 40 per cent while Wireless increased 18 per cent.
